Case Study: The High-Impact Quick Win (Path A)

Project Type: Low-Risk Retrofit

Property: 1980s Detached House

The Objective: Maximise energy savings with minimal disruption.

The Challenge

The homeowners approached us frustrated by rapidly rising heating bills and a generally “draughty” feel throughout the ground floor. Despite having a modern boiler, the house lost heat almost as quickly as it was generated.

Our PAS 2035 Approach

Following a comprehensive Retrofit Assessment, our team determined this fell under Path A. Because the property was relatively modern with standard construction, the risk of moisture trapping or structural issues was low. We designed a straightforward “fabric first” package focused on optimising the building envelope, ensuring a rapid turnaround and immediate return on investment.

Measures Implemented

Upgraded Loft Insulation: We cleared out the compressed, inadequate 100mm fibreglass and installed high-performance cross-laid insulation to a depth of 300mm, drastically reducing heat loss through the roof.

Targeted Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI): After an endoscopic cavity inspection confirmed the walls were clear of debris, we injected premium EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) beads.

Comprehensive Draught-Proofing: We resealed all primary windows and external doors using commercial-grade weatherstripping.

The Results

EPC Jump: Rating improved from D (62) to C (74).

The Impact: The project was completed in just two days. The homeowners reported an immediate elimination of cold draughts, a significantly warmer living environment, and an estimated 25% reduction in their annual heating consumption.
